Managing Indie Artists – 38th IMB Session

Managing Indie Artists

December 2, 2020

7:30 PM EDT – 8:30 PM EDT

Online

Ottawa Music Industry Coalition and Edwards Creative Law are proud to announce our 38th IMB session, “Managing Indie Artists”.

The focus of the session is on managing indie artist’s online presence and revenue streams.

Panelists:

Dave Cool (yes, that’s his real name) is the VP of Business Development at Bandzoogle. Made for musicians by musicians, the Ottawa-based Bandzoogle is used by over 50,000 artists to power their websites and manage direct-to-fan marketing and sales. Dave has spoken at dozens of music conferences including SXSW, Canadian Music Week, Folk Alliance, and the ASCAP EXPO. He has also been interviewed by The Economist, Newsweek International, CNN.com, and the Financial Post for his insights on the music industry.

Steve Gardiner is the owner of SGMGroupArtists; a boutique indie label in Ottawa, and an artist manager. The label and management duties work in tandem, specializing in the development of artist’s careers. He is currently managing Ottawa based recording artist Andrew Cassara and Toronto based Ricki Ayela (both emerging pop artists). Steve wears a number of different hats in his entrepreneurial ventures, including artist management, music producer, songwriter, and label operator. As a recording artist previously signed to A&M Records & Sour Music/Sony, Steve brings his past experience as an artist to the table acting as a mentor to many emerging artist’s careers.

Moderator:

Tenacious, and achingly pure, singer-songwriter Nambi (formerly known as Rita Carter) is a powerhouse of acoustic soul. A beloved fixture in her hometown of Ottawa, she balances her music career leading workshops, organizing community events and being a mom to two young boys. At the heart of Nambi’s music lies an inextinguishable belief in compassion, and a tireless quest for peace, equality, and happiness.

As always the event is free. All are welcome. The event is online.
