Congratulations to Foreigner and its writer-director Ava Maria Safai for winning the Silver Audience Award for Best Canadian Film at Fantasia International Film Festival 2025! The film has also been nominated for the 2025 Jean-Marc Vallée Directors Guild of Canada Discovery Award.

A bold blend of horror and social commentary, Foreigner follows a 15-year-old Iranian girl’s unsettling journey to fit in after immigrating to Canada—exploring identity, assimilation, and intergenerational trauma through a supernatural lens.
